Overview

The Everest Three High Passes Trek is an adventurous journey in the Everest region, featuring three challenging passes: Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La, all above 5,000 meters. The trek offers a glimpse into the Sherpa lifestyle, picturesque villages, and lush rhododendron forests. You’ll cross suspension bridges, streams, and visit villages like Phakding, Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Chhukung, and Lobuche.

The trail leads to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m) with stunning views of Himalayan mountains. The trek also takes you to Gokyo Valley, showcasing the Nogzumpa glacier and Gokyo Lakes (4,700m to 5,000m). You’ll explore Gokyo Ri (5,357m) and pass through villages, gaining insights into the locals’ unique mountain lifestyle. Along the way, visit ancient monasteries like Tengboche (3,860m) and Khumjung (3,790m). The trek provides ample opportunities to relax and unwind amidst the beauty of the Everest region.

Tour Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu and trip preparation Upon arriving at Kathmandu International Airport, a representative from Aarohi Treks will warmly welcome us and transfer us to our designated hotel. After settling in, we have the option to rest. This evening marks the beginning of our adventure with Aarohi Treks. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Free day in Kathmandu (1400m.| 4593ft.) Today, we'll assess the equipment you need for the trek and advise whether to buy, rent, or provide it for you if available. You have the option to spend the day exploring the Kathmandu Valley. Additionally, we can arrange a guided Kathmandu sightseeing tour if you're interested.
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla 30 minutes (2840m.|9316ft.), trek to Phakding (2610m.|8563ft. 3-4 hrs) You'll have a thrilling flight to Lukla, sometimes from a different airport. After breakfast, we'll begin walking to Phakding. Along the way, you'll see stone walls, prayer wheels, and colorful stones. Stop for lunch at Thado Koshi gaon, where you can enjoy the stunning view of Kusum Kanguru (6367m | 20889ft.). The trek goes on, and soon we'll arrive at the pretty village of Phakding.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m.|11286ft. 6-7 hrs) From Phakding, cross the Dudh Koshi river via a suspension bridge to reach Monjo, passing through a pine forest. Navigate several suspension bridges and ascend through Sagarmatha National Park. Follow the Dudh Koshi river to Jorsale for a lunch break, then trek through dense forests to reach the iconic Namche Bazaar. Get your first glimpse of Mt. Everest today.
Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar (3 to 5 hours a day hiking) Today, acclimate in Namche Bazaar by exploring, interacting with locals. Embark on a short hike to Everest View Hotel (3,962m) for stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, and Kongde Peak. Enjoy the scenery and return to Namche Bazaar for the night, ensuring a gradual adjustment to high altitude.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m.|12660ft.,6-7 hrs) Leave Namche Bazaar's bustle for a serene walk through juniper and rhododendron forests, with views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest. Navigate ascents and descents to reach Tengboche village, home to the largest monastery in the Khumbu region, the Tengboche Monastery.
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m.|14469ft., 5-6 hrs) After crossing the Imja Khola, head towards Pangboche village. Take a short break to visit the ancient Pangboche monastery, the largest Sherpa settlement in the region. The trail then continues, providing a stunning panorama of Island Peak and Ama Dablam as you approach Dingboche village.
Dingboche - Chukung (4730m.| 15518ft.) The hike from Dingboche to Chukung is short but challenging because we're at a high altitude, making walking more difficult due to lower oxygen levels. Chukung is part of the Island Peak trek trail, and we'll spend the night there to acclimatize to the altitude.
Acclimatization Day(4730m.| 15518ft.) Today, our bodies need to get used to the changing altitudes. We'll hike up to Chukung Ri (5550m | 18208ft.), which provides breathtaking views of Lhotse, Makalu, and Baruntse. We'll spend the night at Chukung.
Chukung - Kongma La pass - Lobuche (4910m.| 16108ft.) Today's trek will be more challenging than previous days. We'll start our hike from Chukung to Lobuche, crossing Kongma La Pass (5535m | 18159ft.). The trail takes us through steep hills, passing the high camps of Pokalde (5806m | 19048ft.) and blue lakes. Reaching Kongma La Pass, you'll be treated to enchanting mountain views. We'll descend to Lobuche, crossing the Khumbu Glacier, and spend the night there.
Lobuche - Gorakshep, Day trip to Everest Base camp (5140m.| 16863ft.) After breakfast in Lobuche, we'll follow the trail to Everest Base Camp (5364m | 17598ft.), reaching Gorakshep. The path to Everest Base Camp winds through moraines and rocky terrain, making today challenging but rewarding as we reach the base camp of the world's highest mountain. After lunch in Gorakshep, we'll journey to Everest Base Camp, spend some time there, and then return to Gorakshep.
Gorakshep - Kalapathar - Dzongla (4830m.| 15846ft.) From Gorakshep, we'll hike up to Kalapathar, the best viewpoint of Mt. Everest for the sunrise. The panoramic view from Kalapatthar includes Mt. Everest (8,848.86m | 29031ft.), Lingtren (6,749m | 22142ft.), Khumbutse (6,636m | 21771ft.), Changtse (7,550m | 24770ft.), Nuptse (7861m), and more. After breakfast in Gorakshep, we'll retrace our path to Lobuche. From Lobuche, we'll descend to Dzongla, with a view of the north face of Mt. Cholatshe (6335m | 20784ft.).
Dzongla - Chola pass - Thangnak (4700m.| 15419ft.) Today's trek presents a challenge as we cross the Chola Pass (5420m | 17782ft.), one of the three high passes in the Everest region. We'll start ascending through steep and slippery trails, with a snow-covered glacier leading us to the Chola Pass. Upon reaching the top, we'll descend through a slippery path, where there is a possibility of falling rocks, eventually reaching Thangnak.
Thangnak - Gokyo (4790m.| 15715ft.) After breakfast, we'll embark on a hike to Gokyo, following the trail alongside the largest glacier in Nepal, the Ngozumba Glacier. The scenic Himalayas along the way create a paradise-like experience. We'll spend the night in Gokyo.
Acclimatization: Gokyo-Ri & Gokyo Village (4790m.| 15715ft.) After crossing the two high passes, trekking has taken a toll on our bodies. We'll take a break and spend an extra day in Gokyo. Today, we'll hike to Gokyo Ri and explore the Gokyo valley. Gokyo Ri provides a breathtaking view of Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and many other mountains. We'll stay overnight in Gokyo.
Gokyo - Renjo La pass - Marulung (4210m.| 13812ft.) Today marks the crossing of the final highest pass, Renjo La Pass (5360m | 17585ft.), which is the last challenge of this trek. From the top of Renjo La Pass, you can enjoy views of Everest, the Rolwaling Himalayan range, Makalu, and more. The descent involves navigating a rocky and slippery pathway, and we'll spend the night at Marulung.
Marulung - Thame - Namche Bazaar (3440m.| 11286ft.) Following breakfast, we'll trek down to Namche Bazaar. The descent involves crossing several suspension bridges and passing through juniper forests, along with Sherpa villages such as Taranga, Thame, Phurte, and Gongla. We'll spend the night at Namche Bazaar.
Namche - Phakding - Lukla (2840m.| 9317ft.) We'll retrace our path through Jorsalle, Monjo, Phakding, Nurning, and various other villages. Along the way, we'll pass several mani walls and chortens before reaching Lukla.
Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu (1400m.| 4593ft.) Today marks our final day in the hills. We'll take a morning flight to Kathmandu, bidding farewell to the mountains and carrying cherished memories of our trek.
Free day Kathmandu (1400m.| 4593ft.) Today is a reserve day, serving as a contingency in case we cannot return to Kathmandu due to flight cancellations or weather conditions. If we are back in Kathmandu, it's a free day to rest or explore the streets of the Kathmandu Valley at your leisure.
Departure from Kathmandu We will drop you at the airport or assist you in your further planning of the trek in Nepal.
