Overview

The Langtang trek has been a favorite among trekkers for years, known for its vast landscapes, rich Tamang culture, moderate difficulty, and easy access from Kathmandu. Despite the challenges posed by the 2015 earthquake and landslide, the Langtang region has reopened to trekkers, offering a unique and impactful experience. Your visit can contribute to the ongoing recovery efforts in the local communities.

Compared to more famous trekking routes like Everest and Annapurna, the Langtang budget trek is more accessible and affordable. It’s designed for anyone, even those without prior trekking experience. This package offers an economical way to explore the Langtang region, ensuring you get the best value for your trekking experience.

Despite being just a day’s drive from Kathmandu, the Langtang valley trek is often overlooked in favor of more famous routes. Yet, it showcases the towering Langtang Himalayas, takes you through lush rhododendron and bamboo forests, past thundering waterfalls, and offers views of stunning snow-capped mountains. The trek reaches heights like Kyanjin Ri at 4,773m (13,123ft.), and for those seeking greater elevation, the sunrise from Tserko Ri at 4,984m (16,347ft.) is an extraordinary experience not to be missed.

Tour Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu and trip preparation Upon arriving at Kathmandu International Airport, a representative from Aarohi Treks will warmly welcome us and transfer us to our designated hotel. After settling in, we have the option to rest. This evening marks the beginning of our adventure with Aarohi Treks. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi The trekking journey kicks off with a scenic yet adventurous road trip. After an early breakfast at the hotel, we set out from Kathmandu on a bus headed to Syabru Besi. The first half of the road trip, up to Trisuli Bazaar, is relatively smooth on a black-topped road. However, the real adventure begins once we hit the gravel road. Driving through rural areas on muddy roads in Nepal is an adventure in itself. The picturesque hills and the river flowing alongside compensate for the challenging ride. It's worth noting that the roads may be occasionally blocked during monsoons due to landslides, so traveling on this route is not recommended during the rainy season.
Trek from Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel Today marks the first day of trekking, and it's a relatively easy hike. After a satisfying breakfast at the lodge in Syabru Besi (1500 m), we kick off our trek by crossing the Bhote Koshi River. The trail gradually ascends to Bamboo (2200 m) and then to Rimche (2485 m). By the end of the day, we reach Lama Hotel (2480 m), where we'll have dinner and spend the night. The trail takes us through oak and rhododendron forests, offering an enjoyable walk. During the spring season, the entire forest is adorned with vibrant red Rhododendron blooms, creating a beautiful scenery. If you're lucky, you might also spot some wild animals and birds along the way.
Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village Today, we commence our hike from Lama Hotel after breakfast. Passing through Rhododendron and pine forests, you'll catch glimpses of Langtang Lirung and the Langtang Himal Range. The trail breaks through the woods at Ghoda Tabela (3030 m), where we pause for lunch. Continuing our ascent, the trail opens into alpine meadows where yaks graze. Before reaching Langtang Village, we pass several temporary settlements used by herders during the summer months. The Langtang Range becomes more prominent as we arrive in Langtang (3430 m), a village severely affected by the 2015 earthquake. The village's infrastructure has been restored, with traditional houses rebuilt in a modern style. Langtang Village is where we spend the night in a lodge with modern facilities.
Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa Today is a short 4-5 hour hike from Langtang Village (3430 m) to Kyanjin Gompa (3830 m). We begin the hike on a steep trail through yak pastures, passing temporary huts made by shepherds, as permanent settlements are rare above 3500 meters. The valley opens further, offering an even more extensive view of the Langtang Range. Upon reaching Kyanjin Gompa, you'll encounter chortens, prayer flags, and Mani walls adorned with sacred stones engraved with religious scriptures. We arrive at this beautiful Buddhist settlement for lunch, allowing you the rest of the day to explore the surroundings, including the monastery and cheese factory, or simply relax at the teahouse.
Rest Day at Kyanjin Gompa and excursion around After three days of continuous trekking, you deserve a rest day. Acclimatization is crucial for your body to adjust to the increasing altitude and decreasing oxygen levels as you go higher than 3000 meters. However, a rest day doesn't mean staying at the lodge all day. You have the option to explore the village or hike nearby hilltops. Kyanjin Gompa is named after the monastery "Kyanjin Gompa," which holds great religious significance. There's also a famous cheese factory producing yak cheese, both of which are must-visit places in Kyanjin Gompa. For those seeking better mountain views, you can hike up to Kyanjin Ri (4400 m) or Tesergo Ri (4984 m). Both offer excellent viewpoints for a panoramic view of the Langtang Range, including the highest peak, Langtang Lirung (7245 m), along with scenic valleys, frozen lakes, and pristine glaciers.
Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hote After our final breakfast at Kyanjin Gompa, we begin our trek back. The trail retraces our steps, leading us to Langtang Village and Ghoda Tabela, where we'll stop for lunch. Following a brief lunch break, we continue on a steep descent to reach Lama Hotel, where we'll spend the night once again. Although it's a long day of hiking, the descent makes the walk easier as most of the trails go downhill.
Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi On the final hiking day of this Langtang 8-Days Trek, we trek back from Lama Hotel to Rimche, Bamboo, and finally to Syabru Besi. Taking in the Himalayan view one last time, we savor a delicious Nepali meal and spend the night at a lodge in Syabru Besi.
Drive from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu We depart from the lodge early after a quick breakfast to catch a bus back to Kathmandu. The drive retraces the same scenic route, allowing you to enjoy the landscape through the bus window. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we'll drop you off at your hotel, and the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy. Take a stroll around the streets of Thamel, collecting souvenirs for your friends and family. We'll treat you to a token of love and a farewell dinner on your last night in Kathmandu. Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Langtang Trek.
Final Departure Remember Aarohi Treks for your future adventures in Nepal, and don't forget to leave a review. Have a safe trip back home.
